We're Gearing Up for the 2008 Celebration!
2007 was an exciting year in African dance! Because of you— the artists, students, organizers, advocates and patrons of African dance—the ancient art form has taken a new shape in communities across the globe. The first annual NY New Year’s African Dance Festival in 2007 was a product of this collective global energy.  One of the primary goals of this festival was to pay tribute to the artists/teachers who have helped to make African dance a potent force in the world of dance.  So, in addition to the classic roster of master artists from Guinea, Mali and Senegal, we were very fortunate to attract the support of masters who have been vital to the thriving legacy of African dance in New York City, the “Mecca” of African dance in the US.  We also g0t an opportunity to witness all these cultural gatekeepers share a single stage in a dynamic concert choreographed by Pape N’Diaye!  The culmination of this landmark event was a New Year’s Eve Party with live performances and a Dounounba/Sabar dance party!  With 22 dance workshops spanning 4 days, a live concert,  a New Year’s Eve party, and attendants from all over the world, this event was truly a landmark occasion in African dance history!  More>>
