We're Gearing Up for the Next Celebration!
We would all agree that 2009 marks an historic year, with the Inaguration of Barack Obama as the first Black president of the United States. As Obama’s presidency was sealed, news broadcasts from around the country showed people who were at a loss for how to commemorate this occasion. We couldn’t decide whether to cry, cheer, quietly reflect, or shout; so, we alternated between them all in un-tempered spasms, and no one really knew what to do.
In the African dance community, we welcome this change in America and celebrate the only way that we know how...
We DANCE!
We dance with our hearts, our spirits, and without fear of missing a beat! We dance for our children, our families, our friends, and our ancestors who paved the way for us to see this day! We dance because dance is what brought us here, what keeps us here, and what will keep our dreams and hopes alive for another year!
Come and dance with us!
